Iris Crumpler Obituary

Iris Snell Crumpler CHESAPEAKE - Iris Snell Crumpler, 78, of the 100 block of Ridgewood Road, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, in her home, surrounded by family. Iris was born in South Creek, N.C., and was the daughter of the late William and Mary Snell. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Lt. Col. Frank A. Crumpler Jr. and a brother, James T. Snell. Iris retired from the City of Chesapeake where she was the general registrar from 1987 to 1994. She attended Oaklette United Methodist Church. She will be remembered by her family as their biggest cheerleader with a loving smile. Survivors include two sons, Frank Allen Crumpler III and wife Wendy of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Kenneth Lee Crumpler and wife Rhonda of Gulfport, Miss.; three grandchildren, Justin Crumpler, Carie Crumpler and Cassie Crumpler; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Leighann; a sister, Nannie S. Miller and husband Calvin of Norfolk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The Rev. Tom Mercer and the Rev. Gene Meek will officiate. There will not be a family visitation. A viewing will begin today from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
