Irma Smith CHESAPEAKE - Irma Vivian Thrailkill Smith, 90, of Snowberry Lane, died early Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at her home. Born March 22, 1919 in Jefferson, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Joe and Clara Thrailkill. She was veteran of World War II serving with the WAVES, and was a longtime sale clerk at Belo's. She was a strong woman who knew no strangers and was loved by all whom were lucky enough to be a part of her life. Besides her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Smith Sr. and her only daughter, Vivian Smith Bess. Survivors include three sons, William E. Smith Jr. and wife Jane of Chesapeake, Robert Lynn Smith Sr. and wife Donna of Currituck, N.C., and John Randal Smith and wife Lori of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren, Tommy, Steve, Tim, Ted, Tammy, Bobby, Becky, Corie, Sam and Bridget; and 12 beloved great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. There will be no viewing or open casket. Twiford Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake, is in charge.
