James Gerloff Obituary
Richmond - James Gerald Gerloff Sr., of Richmond, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was born in Norfolk, Va., on December 8, 1924. He was predeceased by two sons, James Gerald Jr. "Gary" and Peter Jon and his brother, Edgar J. Gerloff Jr. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue L. Gerloff; three sons, M. William (Jerryetta), Stephen W. (Barbara) and Frederick D.; daughter-in-law, Melinda K. Gerloff; grandchildren, Emily Anne, Caroline Stuart, Elizabeth Claire, Matthew Peter, James Gerald III and Lily Bond; a sister, Mrs. Michael C. Baecher (Joan); and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Gerloff was a Cryogenic Gas Sales Specialist with British Oxygen Corp. He was a parishioner of St. Bridget Church for over 50 years. Mr. Gerloff was a WWII combat veteran, serving on the USS Hornet (CV-12). He earned one of his four battle stars for his service during the Battle of the Philippine Seas ("The Marianas Turkey Shoot"). He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School. He attended the College of William and Mary and the University of Richmond. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue, with a Christian Wake Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park.

Dear Old Friends,
May God comfort you during these days and in the weeks to come as you lay your dear Gerald to rest. What a guy! We had the pleasure to visit with him the last time we were in Richmond together, and he still had his sharp sense of humor.
Our love and prayers are with all of you, and we wish we could be there to celebrate his life.
