James Lamore Obituary

Commander James F. Lamore is survived by his wife of 61 years Ann Lamore (Doherty), daughter Ann King, sons Michael and Peter Lamore, son in law Roland Modlin, daughters in law Susan and Ellen, and 6 grandchildren Tyler, Greg, Maria, Andrew, Mathew, and Nicholas. Born in Philadelphia, Pa he grew up in San Diego and attended San Diego State University followed by the US Naval Academy where he graduated in 1954. James Lamore subsequently earned a BS in Electrical Engineering at Naval Post Graduate School and attended flight school in Pensacola, Florida. Commander Lamore was a Navy Aviator with the "Screaming Eagles" while living in California and later the Commanding Officer of "VF-74 Squadron" at Naval Air Station Oceana. As a career Naval Aviator flying the F-4 Phantom Jet, Commander Lamore flew more than 200 combat missions servicing his country on two (2) nine-month cruises during the Vietnam War. Upon retirement from the Navy, James Lamore earned an MBA from Old Dominion University and later worked for QED Systems, Ingersoll Rand, and National Technologies.

James Lamore was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach for 61 years. He was a devoted Catholic. He loved the Naval Academy and was a life-time supporter.

James Lamore fought hard during his illness while remaining faithful. He passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021, with family, friends, and clergy visiting with him during his final days, while he prepared to leave this world.

A Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday Dec. 28, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 721 Little Neck Road Virginia Beach, Va. A reception will follow. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.
