Sorry for your loss.
My fondest memory of Jim was watching him photographing Joanne and her horses at the barn.
Rest in peace Jim and God bless and comfort the family

Jim was a great friend and mentor to many (including me) and a giant in the railroad industry; his passing leaves a void which may never be filled. I always enjoyed talking with him because he shared a keen interest and passion for the future of railroading intertwined with historical perspectives; he often shared what you SHOULD hear, not necessarily what you wanted to hear. My thoughts and prayers are with the McClellan family.

Jim was always a genuine pleasure to speak with. His knowledge of the railroad and gift for writing will be treasured for generations of railfans for years to come. He will always be a mentor to me, and someone I was blessed to know.
My prayers go out to Jim's family in this time. May you find peace in in your memories of this very accomplished, wonderful man.

There is some timeless advice for the young starting a professional career." Find something you love, and it will never seem like work." Jim will always come to mind whenever I give that advice.

When I opened my emailed Railway Age issue this morning and saw Jim's name, I was expecting to read some interesting story of a recent accomplishment, but sadly it was the notice of his untimely death. I never met Jim, but I knew of him and read of his many contributions and accomplishments to the railroad industry. In fact, beside my bed, I have the book, "The Men Who Loved Trains." I now live less than an hour's drive from where Jim was born. I always hoped that some day I'd meet him and share some of my stories with him and I'm sure that some day I will. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and many friends who will miss him. This morning I have an ache where my heart is, at the passing of a great and dear man.

I only met you once, Jim, but you kindly took the time to help me with my project. I'll always remember your generosity. May you always have green signals ahead.
