James Reynierse Obituary

James H. Reynierse, 83, of Chesapeake, passed away on November 27, 2021.

Jim was born in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Henry and Hester Reynierse. He received his BA from Calvin College, and his MA and PHD from Michigan State University. He also had two post-doctoral fellowships at Indiana University and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His first career was as a college professor teaching psychology at the University of Nebraska and Hope College. He then worked in the banking industry at Virginia National Bank. His last career was as president of his own consulting firm. He was a former elder at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church, and past Scoutmaster with Great Bridge Troop 48.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet; two sons, Dan and Steve (Norma); two grandsons, Sean (Caitlin) Reynierse and Nick (MaryEllen) Chamberlin; four great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Siegers of Midland Park, NJ; sister-in-law, Lois (Len) Scripsema of Grandville, MI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Great Bridge Battlefield Foundation. Because of Covid concerns, services are private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is handling arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
