Jessie Austin Obituary

Jessie M. Austin CHESAPEAKE - Jessie Mellott "Tess" Austin, 79, left this world peacefully to be with our Lord. She was predeceased by her parents, Davis R. Mellott and Annabell Price Mellott Singer; her sister, Grace M. Hutchenson; and brothers, George "Skip" Mellott and Davis "Rene" Mellott II. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Marilyn J. Watkins and husband Lee of Virginia Beach, Angel B. Roberts and husband Roy of Chesapeake, and Tessa B. Thompson and husband David of Garner, N.C. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Tess was employed by Intercoastal Steele and retired from the Chesapeake Branch of the ASCS Agricultural Dept. She had many volunteer opportunities but her two favorite were AARP, which she was a past president, and the Chesapeake Sheriff Office. She was a devout Christian and a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church. She was best known for her zest for life, her good humor, and always having a smile for everyone. A celebration of her life will be held at her daughter Marilyn's home in Virginia Beach Saturday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. All loved ones are welcome.

Aunt Tess was truly my 2nd Mom and I'll miss her dearly. She was the model for the kind of aunt I wanted to become. She gave us the greatest childhood adventures ever imaginable with very little money, but with HUGE imagination and excitement! Some of my best chilhood memories and well into my adulthood include her . She always had the best sleepovers too! Kisses and hugs Aunt Tess, until we meet again.

All my love,
Annabel & family
