Joan G. Anderson

Chesapeake - - Joan Gwendolyn Anderson, 82, died May 6, 2015. A native of Ahoskie, NC, she was predeceased by her son, Donald L. Anderson, Jr. Mrs. Anderson was an active member of West End United Methodist Church where she was the church secretary for ten years, treasurer of the United Methodist Women, and treasurer of Church Women United. She was on the board of directors of the Wesley Center and for the past 20 years ran Operation Santa Claus for the City of Portsmouth.

Survivors include her husband, Donald L. Anderson Sr.; two daughters, Donna Harris and husband George of Smithfield and Susan Kemp and husband Whalen of Shacklefords, VA; brother, Dr. William Adkins of Suffolk; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 11 AM in West End UMC by the Rev. Lynda Moore. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Friday from 7-8 PM. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
