John P. Lancaster, 87, of Chesapeake, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 5, 2021.
Born in Landrum, South Carolina, John was the son of the late Burton Lee Lancaster and Edna Myrtle Orr. He was a long-time member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, member of the Building Committee, and active member of his Sunday school class, Pairs and Spares. John and his wife, Audrey, owned Great Bridge Decorating Center for nearly 30 years before they retired in 2001. Since that time, John has spent many days at the family farm house, using his talents to beautify the property with endless projects, from trellises and cornices to porches and gazebos. Family gatherings at "the farm" created precious memories filled with love and laughter for so many. John loved the Lord and he loved his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, and the love of his life, Audrey O. Lancaster; a son, John Paul Lancaster, Jr. and wife, Kerri H. Lancaster; grandsons, John Paul Lancaster III (Trey) and Parker Lancaster, brothers Billy Lancaster and Stanley Lancaster, sisters Starr Quinn, Nancy Giles, and Naida Forbes and husband Cordell, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.
John's life will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Great Bridge Baptist Church, 640 S. Battlefield Blvd. in Chesapeake. Pastor Richard Castleberry will officiate. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
