Joyce Ann Morris Pettet

North Carolina - Joyce Ann Morris Pettet, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 28, 2016. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Williams Pettet. Joyce was born on October 2, 1933 and is survived by her son and his wife, Brian and Vickie Pettet, her daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Rick Essex, and her two grandchildren and their spouses, Virginia Essex Koontz and Cameron, and Erik Essex and Victoria. Joyce will be remembered by family and friends as a woman who was humorous, kind, and thoughtful. She loved the Lord, served Him well in her family and church community, and was a long time member of her church choir for many years at Old Donation Episcopal Church. Just as God wrote Joyce's life story on this earth, He also wrote the perfect script on her last day. As she was entering heaven, she heard her son's voice praying God's promises over her from Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.", and "I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, November 4, 2016, at Old Donation Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, Virginia 23502 or Old Donation Church Music Fund, 4449 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA, 23455. Online condolences may be expressed at www.vacremationsociety.com

Kathleen and Brian,

You may not remember me. I am Donna Elks Holmes. I grew up across the street on 1432 Claudia Dr which became your parent's home eventually.

I googled the house on the satellite map just to see what it looked like. It brought back many fond memories of my childhood.

Then I googled your mom's name and the obituary came up. I wanted to send my condolences and say hi. It is wonderful to know you are walking with with the Lord and she is with Him forever and enjoying being with my mom as well, I'm sure :)

Blessings!

Kathleen and Brian, I absolutely loved your mom growing up! She was such an awesome friend to my mom and loved me as one of her own it seemed. She was funny, sweet and made sure I always had a ride to Old Donation if needed!

When I get back to the beach and get to swing down our old road... know that your family has always been thought of, wondered about and played an important part in my childhood memories!

Love and prayers for you and yours!
