Virginia Beach - Mrs. Katherine "Kitty" P. Williford passed away at the age of 86 in Wilmington, N.C. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Katherine was born in Henderson, N.C. on May 1, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Petar and Maria W. Petar. She was the widow of Matthew D. Williford Jr to whom she was married for 49 years.
Katherine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her sons Matthew D. Williford III (Patty) Virginia Beach, Va., Arthur W. Williford (Linda) Atkinson, N.C., granddaughters Danielle Williford, Virginia Beach, Va., Hannah Williford, Atkinson, N.C., grandson Morgan Williford (Emily), Burgaw, N.C., step-granddaughter Katie Mashek, Virginia Beach, Va., brother Arthur Petar (Laura) Traverse City, Mich., nephew Arthur B. Petar (Kitty) Santa Ana, Calif., nieces Carol P. Ahnen (Dennis) Denver, Colo., Kathy P. Vanderelsen (Tom) Waterford, Mich. and cousin Betty Hunley, Virginia Beach, Va. Katherine was also blessed to have the love and close friendship of her dear Baylake Pines neighbors and friends as well as those in her "Course in Miracles" study group.
Katherine attended primary and secondary school in Warrenton, N.C. and received her BA degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Katherine worked in Michigan and New York before settling in Norfolk, Va. She worked for the Red Cross and it was through that affiliation she met her husband. Katherine was a resident of Baylake Pines in Virginia Beach, VA for 54 years.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 4, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Granby St., Norfolk, Va. with Reverend Robert J. Randall Jr. of Old Donation Episcopal Church officiating.

Your mom was truly an independent thinker and as pleasant the last time I saw her as the first when I moved here in the sixth grade. She was a caring and giving soul, and she and your Dad always made me feel at home whenever I was there. May you find peace in knowing that they are together once more.
