Kimberly G. Vaughan
Virginia Beach - Kimberly Gorman Vaughan, 44, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2013, after a long battle with cancer waged with determination and grace. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger T. Vaughan, and is survived by her daughters, Savannah and Casey; twin brother, Timothy and his family; her parents, Jim and Carol Gorman; Roger's brothers and sister; and her extended family, many friends and co-workers.
Kim was born in Westfield, Massachusetts, but grew up in Newport News, graduating from Menchville High School, the College of William and Mary and later attending Old Dominion University to complete her teaching program. She began her career teaching math in the Norfolk school system before moving to Lynnhaven Middle School. Prior to teaching, Kim held positions with Verizon, Bayside Assisted Living, and Michael's.
She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Always intent on helping others, she was cheerful and giving. She genuinely cared about her students, who were a particular source of joy. The optimism and fierce determination she expressed set an example for many people facing adversity while also teaching us to truly appreciate the moments of our lives.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff of Virginia Oncology Associates and Sentara Hospice for all the help they gave to Kim during this time.
There will be a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013, with a reception to follow, at Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Please join her family in a celebration of her life and share your favorite story about Kim with them.
