L. Murden Obituary


L. Leroy Murden CHESAPEAKE - L. Leroy Murden, 72, died Aug. 31, 2008, in his home. He was born in Norfolk County, and was the son of the late Lemuel and Mary Murden. Leroy was a retired refrigeration mechanic for ARA Vending Corp. and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Laurel Avenue Church of Christ and served as an elder of the church. Leroy also served as a former church treasurer and chairman of the church board; he was an active member of the choir. He was a ham radio operator. Leroy is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Doris Todd Murden; a daughter, Patricia Murden Harris and husband Steven of Chesapeake; a brother, Robert E. Murden of Chesapeake; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tracy. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rosewood Memorial Park by Minister Carl L. Cooper. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, today from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Laurel Avenue Church of Christ Building Fund, 1126 Laurel Ave., Chesapeake, VA 23325.
