Louise Kenslow Obituary

Louise Kenslow

Virginia Beach - Virginia Louise Kenslow, 79, passed away on June 2nd, 2018, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. She was born Sep. 22, 1938 in Bellingham WA. to William and Mozelle Manahan.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Michael Kenslow, her son Jay, his wife Kime, and their children Samuel, Louise, and Sagen; her Son Kenneth, and his wife Angela of Woodruff SC; and two daughters from a previous marriage, Melodie Walton and her family of Silver Spring FL; and Sheri Green and her family in Gig Harbor WA.

Louise was a very active fun loving person with a very big heart. She was always ready to pitch-in and do her part. She'd work behind the scene or step-up and take charge which ever was asked of her.

She was the epitome of a strong and caring Navy Wife who loved her many Navy friends of all ranks. When the Navy began the ombudsman program in 1973 she was ombudsman for USS MULLINNIX (DD-944). She was awarded a commendation by SURFLANT for her support of USS BELKNAP (CG-26) families during the aftermath of the collision with the USS John F. KENNEDY (CV-67) in 1975. At every duty station her focus was supporting the families.

She was an avid NAVY sports fan, especially Football. She had never missed an ARMY/NAVY football game either on TV or in person for the last 52 years.

Louise volunteered as a committee chairperson for the first Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, and later became the city's full time Executive Director of the festival for several years.

She supervised the operation of the concession stands for Lynnhaven Little League Baseball for several years, while her sons played ball there.

Louise took up golf late in life, and quickly fell in love with the game. She was a past Chairman of the Cavalier Lady's Golf Association.

In addition to her family and outside activities, Louise pursued a career in the advertising field for over 35 years. She started in Seattle as a TV station Traffic Manager and then moved into an agency Local Media Buyer position. After moving to Virginia, she became a Local and National Media Buyer working for several agencies. While her husband was stationed in St. Louis, she worked for a National agency as their National Print Buyer. Upon returning to Tidewater, she operated her own Media Placement agency for several years, and then became a partner in the RAR Agency. While at RAR she worked closely with their main client Gene Walters, who became her best friend. After RAR she worked for Haynes, Liberty Tax and several other local companies performing Media placement. Louise was a business woman, a mentor, and dear friend to many in the Media world.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Kings Grant House for their kind support over the past months.

A Memorial will be conducted at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Va. Beach; on Saturday 16 June 2018 at 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at a separate location.

45th Reunion - 2009 Guys & Gals

Keith Werner

June 11, 2018

Our condolences from the Werner Family to the Kenslow Family on the mutual losses of the great women in our lives, Kathleen and Louise who knew each other through the United States Naval Academy (USNA) Great Class of 1964. Mike and Keith were Classmates and Company Mates in the Thirteenth Company which fortunately carried the Colors for two years, our first and last. We did a lot of travelling together as Midshipmen. There are many fond memories over the years. Please be a peace now, Mike and the Kenslow Family. If there is anything the Werner Family can do for you please call on us.
