Margaret Niles Obituary

Margaret Niles

Norfolk - Margaret Ann "Maggie" Niles, 61, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017, in Sturgis, SD.

She was born in Rapid City, SD and raised in Sturgis and the Camp Creek Ranch near Mud Butte, SD. She graduated from Brown High School and subsequently served in the U.S. Navy from 1975 to 1979. During that time, she met and married her husband, and settled in Norfolk, VA. She served in the Naval Reserves until 1983 while concurrently attending Old Dominion University, graduating with a B.A. in English. She also completed several graduate courses in Engineering. Her outgoing personality combined with her technical knowledge led her to establish a technical writing-publishing business in downtown Norfolk from which she retired in 2016. Maggie loved playing card games (pinochle, cribbage, gin) and enjoyed crocheting and living life to the fullest.

Maggie is survived by her darling husband of 40 years, Chuck Niles; and her dear brother, James Patterson in Salt Lake City, UT; his wife, Judy; nephew, Aaron; and nieces, Amanda and Kyna. Maggie was close with several cousins. Maggie is also survived by her beloved "Norfolk" sister, Kathy Grogg and her husband, Jim, and their children, James, Kimberly, and Susanne and their spouses, and their children; her brother-in-law, Al, and his family, Jamie, David, and Brooke; step-brother-in-law, William; and step-sister-in-law, Mary Lynne.

A memorial service will be held August 14 at First Baptist Church of Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Rd, at 6 pm. A reception will follow. Donations in her name may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Maggie was a very caring and loving person who passed from this world well short of her time. Believing in our Lord and Savior, we have to believe that he had other plans and called her home. May God bless and keep Maggie in his loving spiritual embrace.

Dear Niles family, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Maggie for over a year on a book project while attending Regent University in 1996-1998. She was always ready, able and willing to argue and never hesitate to challenge me on my position. She was awesome! Sitting in church yesterday she crossed my mind, so I decided to look her up. I was shocked to see she had passed away. Please know you all are in my prayers!

Dear Chuck and the Niles family,
Sorry for your loss of such a special and joyful person. My name is Charles "Chic" LoMonaco, a long time friend and co-worker of Maggie, from our days at Search & Recruit. Chuck, You, Maggie and I were again reacquainted when you came to the City of Norfolk, Commissioner of the Revenue, for assistance with your business. It was my honor and pleasure to know you and Maggie, although for such a short time.
Chuck, we know not why God chooses to call us home when he does, but we can be assured, when he does, it's all part of his "Master Plan". Maggie, at such a young age, was a very special person and she touched many lives, during her short time on earth. May our lord and savior bless her and escort her into eternal life.
May God Bless you all during your time of mourning.
