Marie Burgess Obituary
Virginia Beach - Marie Williams Burgess (86) went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 surrounded by her family. Marie was born October 29, 1927 in Graceville FL.
She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Florida Williams and one brother Carroll Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jackson C. Burgess Jr. and her three children: Douglas Burgess and his wife Cathy of Portsmouth; Kelly Burgess of Norfolk; Teresa Rider and her husband Andrew of Chesapeake. She had four grandchildren: Jessica Holmes, Caroline Krasucki, Michael and Rachael Burgess and their mother Theresa as well as two great-grandsons Ryder and Crew Holmes and a great granddaughter-to-come Harper she was hoping to meet. She is also survived by one sister Myrl Moody and two brothers Hubert (wife Edna) and Charles (wife Barbara) Williams all of Florida.
Our mother graduated class Valedictorian from Graceville High School in Florida in 1946; Nursing School in 1949 and Nurse Anesthesia studies in 1954 and then spent 33 years giving Anesthesia and caring for others while raising a family.
She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She loved to have her hands in the soil raising flowers and will be disappointed to know that there are no weeds to pull in heaven. She was known to her great grandsons as "Fruit Grandma" because she always loved to give them fruit to eat!
You will be so greatly missed Mom, we all love you and were not ready to let you go.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at Colonial Baptist Church, 2221 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday June 7 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you plant a flower in her honor.
Marie chose to have her body donated to science in an effort to save the lives of others.

Seven years have passed and gone so fast. My son and husband are both there with you in heaven. They loved the brownies and cookies you brought to our home several times. Still missing you friend.

My fondness of Marie will always linger in my heart from the bond we had as neighbors. In memory of Marie I promise to continue to maintain the weed free grassy area between our homes as this was important to her. God bless her loving family.
