Mary L. Freeman

1931 - 2023

Mary Louis Freeman, age 92, of Norfolk Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on the 26th of May 2023. Mary was born on April 6, 1931, in Bertie County North Carolina to the late William Clark and Ora Hill. She was the 6th of 7 children. Mary was a member of Campostella Heights Seventh-day-Adventist Church for several decades. While a member of the church, she remained active by singing in the choir, serving on the usher board and most recently, served as a deaconess and numerous other positions. Mary was employed as a caregiver and helped raise children for a local family. She was known for her baking skills and enjoyed sewing for anyone in need. Mary was preceded in death by her late husband of 69 years, John Edward and son Michael Allen. She was also preceded in death by her six siblings: brothers Arthur, Leon, Lassiter, Wilford (Buddy), Freddie and a sister Eleanor. Left to cherish her memory are her children Donnie and his wife Diane, Clarence (Eddie) and wife Susan, Nadine, Bobby and wife Tia, Wayne and wife Ruth and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren and her beloved church family. A funeral service will be held 11:00am, Friday, June 9, 2023, at Campostella Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church in Norfolk, 1006 Oakwood St. Norfolk, VA 23523. A viewing will be held 2pm-6pm, Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Metropolitan Funeral Service Berkley, 120 W. Berkley Ave. Norfolk, VA 23523
