1944 - 2022

Michael Riley Gomez, 77, died on April 15, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Mike was born on June 2, 1944 in Norfolk, VA to Robert and Katherine Riley Gomez. He attended Maury High School and Virginia Tech University.

Mike was a loving, devoted, and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He would do anything for the ones he truly loved. His family brought immense joy to his life and he was happiest in their company or supporting them in their endeavors.

In 1992 Mike founded London & Norfolk, Ltd., a commercial insurance agency. Mike's knowledge of the Lloyds market enabled him to succeed in the international insurance industry. Mike developed several long lasting relationships with customers, carriers and employees who also became close life-long friends. Mike's son Riley and son-in-law Mike worked with Mike at London & Norfolk and will carry on the business.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Rosemary Van Atta Gomez; his children Katherine "Kelley" Gomez Couch (Greg), Elizabeth Gomez Moore (Mike), Michael Riley Gomez, Jr. (Liz) and Nicholas Watson Gomez; his 7 grandchildren, Sarah Hummel Bimson, Mason Etheredge "Ridge" Moore, Cole White Moore, Drew Watson Moore, Hayley Michelle Gomez, Savannah Elizabeth Gomez and Noah Salvatore Gomez; his siblings R. Patrick Gomez (Sandy) and Katherine "Kate" Rivers (John) and his nephew Vincent Gomez (Jacqueline). Mike is also survived by extended family Jessica, Jeremy, Easton and Beau Elms. His family is immensely grateful for the care he has received from Cindy Johnson and his doctors, Barbara Parks and Mark Fleming.

A Memorial Service will be held for Mike on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 11:30am at Galilee Episcopal Church, 3928 Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
