Norfolk - Michael Eddie Sakakini, 73, passed away April 6, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Sakakini and brother, Edward Sam Sakakini. He is survived by his sisters, Ajia Holt and husband, Tim, of Harwood, Maryland, Margaret Sakakini, Georgette Kavanaugh and husband, Pat, of Norfolk; nephews, Wesley and Evan Markland and Curtis and Ryan Kavanaugh; cherished aunts, cousins, and dear friend, Margaret Altfen.

Michael retired from Bell Atlantic after 30 years and occupied his time working for the past twelve years at Ollies Bargin Outlet.

Michael served in the U.S. Army as a member of the First Infantry in Vietnam. As a student at Granby High School and ODU, he excelled at track and cross country. Wanting to provide options for Granby athletes, Michael partnered with the Hampton Roads Community Foundation Scholarship Fund. He was proud of his accomplishment of running the New York Marathon in 1984, and being one of the original thirteen charter members of the Tidewater Striders. He enjoyed participating in bowling leagues, vacationing in the sun, and stock market investing.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel on Monday, April 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, April 10, at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Compassionate Care Hospice, 816 Greenbrier Circle, Suite 205, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
