George: Please forgive me for not acknowledging the loss of your Mother earlier. As you probably know our family was in Va. on June 26,27 and 28 with the loss of our Uncle Hunter and visiting Aunt Frances. Your Mother was so very special to all of us and we were so very fortunate to have had her as a teacher, neighbor and friend for so many years. I am so glad we had an hour or so just to ourselves in March 2008 when we were on our way to Florida. Seeing the both of you last August was a double treat. I just pray that all of your good memories of her will give you comfort in the days ahead. Yours In Christ, Emmit

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Minnie Mae was not only a distant cousin but tought me for a while at Thalean Elementary in Sumter Co. in the early 30's. She was always nice to me in both capacities. Thanks for her life & may her soul rest in peace. James Griffin.

My deepest sympathy to her family. She will always be remembered by her students at Holland High School and Forest Glen High School. It was a privilege to have her as a teacher. May God bless and heaven has welcomed another angel from earth.

God Bless! I was fortunite to have known Mrs. Duke at Holland School and then at Forest Glen HS and even later in life while she and George would travel Georgia attending the annual peanut tour. She had a genuine love of her family and her students and that influence will be greatly missed. Her time on this earth influenced many, many people in a positive way. I'll miss her annual Christmas letter telling about her latest adventures with her son and their friends from Suffolk. Again, God Bless and enjoy Heaven. You earned it!
