I have been gone many, many years from Deep Creek. Being from a military family and then joining after high school. I often wondered what had become of many of the students and faculty of Deep Creek High. This saddens me to find out Mr. Hardee had passed away. He was a good man and a great principal. I know I´m late to this but it´s better late than never. RIP Mr. Hardee

Who will ever remember the halls of Deep Creek High School and not see Mr. Hardee laughing with the students or just watching proudly as we all walked by on our way to class? It's simply impossible. He was a man who earned everyone's respect and admiration. He was a mentor to many, a second father to some, but most important, a friend to all. Whatever level you encountered Mr. Hardee on, he would meet you there always ready to leave you with "something", either a smile or simple suggestion to take along with you. It was always about "you" with Mr. Hardee. He was the lighthouse who guided us into a safer harbor in life through education. A man dedicated to bettering the world by bettering the man. That lighthouse is still guiding us, though it no longer shines from Deep Creek. It shines from an eternal shore, a shore within your heart where you see and hear Mr. Hardee as clear as the moments you remember within the halls of Deep Creek High School. May the many memories and "light" of Mr. Hardee forever guide you throughout your life and may his "Hornet spirit" always walk the halls of Deep Creek High School.
In Loving Memory,

Barbara and Family,
My heart goes out to you and your family during this time. I will always remember the times we had with Nat and your family. I still remember the summer trips to the Nags Head cottage where Nat and Nathan and Nancy would stop by. He always wanted to use me for fish bait as I was the youngest at the time. We are family by blood and only separated by miles. We will always keep you in our thoughts and prayers. If we can ever do anything for you please don't hesitate to ask.

What can I say about Mr. Hardee? He was a wonderful man that truly cared for each of his students. I remember when I wanted to be just like my family, so I could say I had the same principal. I was lucky enough to have that. I remember when I left DCHS in 2004, I said my farewells and in 2006, I brought my 1 year old son (at the time) into see Mr. Hardee. I remember watching Mr. Hardee playing with him and I got a giggle out of that. My son who is now 4 still has the Deep Creek football Mr. Hardee had given him that very day. No one will ever forget him, he will always be loved by everyone.

Barbara and Family,
Ann and I want to express our deepest sympathy in the death of our longtime friend, Nat Hardee. Nat and I were both "rookie teachers" together at DCHS in 1962. I taught French and English, and he taught science. His deep love for the school and the community were obvious at that time. He was truly a "people person" even then, which was a great asset when he later became a principal. I remained at the school until 1971 when I joined the State Department of Education in Richmond, but Nat's and my paths crossed occasionally afterward. We feel privileged to have known him for 47 years, and we will always remember him for his charisma, wit, and genuine concern for other people. May God bless you during this difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

To the entire Hardee family, I would like to extend a big "THANK YOU" for sharing Mr. Hardee with us. My father passed away when I was 12, so my senior year of high school was bittersweet not having my dad around for graduation. Mr. Hardee knew my dad, because he had been his teacher before he became a principal. Mr. Hardee always knew how to make my day my senior year. If he saw me in the hallway he would always tell me how proud my dad would be of me. Then he would always tell me what a good man my father was and how much I looked like him. This will forever be a sad day for many people. He touched so many lives throughout the years. My mother was close to him and he was my brother's principal in 1972 (Mr.Hardee's first year as principal) my sister's, and my principal.I will never forget the times he helped us (cheerleaders)by supporting all our endeavors. He was so comical at times, he even did a cheer with us with a girl's wig on and let us throw a pie in his face! Everyone could always count on him to cheer them up if down, and he could be so much fun! His support of the school was unprecedented. I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Hardee, not only as my principal (and my daughters'), but also as my boss. It is true that he knew each student by name. What an amazing memory and a display of genuine care! His quick wit and common sense endeared him to staff and students alike. He will surely be missed! My prayers go to his family and closest friends.
