MR. PAUL EWING SR.
“Mr. Paul Store”
“A Legend in Huntersville”
Do you remember brownie soda's, pickles, penny candy, and rock & roll cookies!
Well, on the corner of Chapel and Dunbar street, there set “ Mr. Paul's Store!”
You could go there spend less and get more!
For a quarter, my sister and cousins would load up on lemon cookies and penny candy.
Boy when we left his store, a little brown paper bag sure came in handy!
I remember my mom, aunt's and grandma would say, “go up there to Mr. Paul store.”
He had a great big smile on his face, when he saw us come through the door.
A lot of times, we didn't even have enough money for the goodies that we received.
But that didn't stop Mr. Paul, because he was the owner and he held the keys.
I can taste that “Brownie Soda now, it was like cold chocolate in your mouth.
You hurried up and drinked it down, before you got back to the house.
Dirty Bert (Rodney), Dirty Sally (Lanya) Dirty Bill (Robbie) and Big Dee (Darveen),
couldn't wait for Mr. Paul store to open! We knew he would bless us with a special treat, something sweet to eat!
He will never be forgotten by the Knight Family and Huntersville community!
He was from the old school, and a blessing to the Huntersville families.
Oh and don't forget about Ms. Annie she sent us to Mr. Paul's for a Goodie and A Coca Cola everyday!
We didn't care cause we knew we would keep the change and buy us a little Debi cake!
So today we salute a Man who had a store, in the heart of the hood.
His heart was generous and he treated the children in Huntersville “Real Good!”
RIP! Mr. Paul you deserve it!
