Robert Kiefner Obituary

Robert Paul Kiefner, age 67, formerly of 1652 MacGregory St. in Va. Beach, passed away in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica in early April 2023. Born in Norfolk, VA on December 20, 1955, he was the son of the late Dick Kiefner and Mary McMahon Kiefner. Rob was a 1974 graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School. From his teenage years on, he had a gift for repairs and trouble-shooting, and was a "jack-of-all-trades" which served him throughout his life. Family, neighbors, and friends relied on his abilities and "can-do" attitude when it came to fixing just about anything. Rob had a love for the water, and he enjoyed working for the Virginia Pilot Association as a launch operator. He had many stories to share about his tenure there and was happiest when he was boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Rob had a long and energetic career at the Southern Auto Group. Starting as a salesman in 1987, he moved on to the Finance Department and ultimately became Director of the Prep Center, where he was able to merge his handyman capabilities with his love for a challenge. Over his nearly 33 years at Southern, he made many friends with customers and associates alike and cherished those relationships. After retiring in December of 2019, Rob pursued his dream of moving to Costa Rica. In spite of the pandemic, he made new friends there who spoke fondly of him and his zest for life. Rob is survived by his brother, Rick Kiefner, and his wife, Hays; his sister, Lynne Shepherd, and her husband, Bill; and brother and best friend, Mark Kiefner, and his wife, Carol. He also enjoyed the affection of seven special nephews and nieces who were constantly amused by his antics and sense of humor. There was never a dull moment when Rob was around! A private burial is planned, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dick Kiefner Memorial Golf Scholarship at Catholic High School, 4552 Princess Anne Rd., Va. Beach, VA 23462.

I worked with Rob at the prep department and have wonderful memories of our time together. Rob was such a sincere person and had a great sense of humor, always looking to play a joke on someone. My prayers and sincere condolences to his family, he is truly missed!!

I remember Rob as always being quick with a smile and an ability to make others feel like they were more than classmates, but friends. Though many years since last seeing him he still had that same welcoming smile. I am happy to see he followed his dreams. Keeping family and friends in our prayers.
