Robert Upton Obituary


Robert O. Upton Jr. ELIZABETH CITY - Robert Osborn Upton Jr., 73, of the 1000 block of Nixonton Road, died June 11, 2008, in Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Upton, a native of Pasquotank County, was the son of the late Robert Osborn Upton Sr. and Dimple Bell Sawyer Upton Ambersio. He was married to Shirley Kelley Upton for 56 years. Mr. Upton was the founder of Bob's Upholstery and a Baptist. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Sherry Upton Gallop of Elizabeth City and Shirl Upton Minton of Roxobel, N.C.; two sons, Gene Allen Upton of Murphy, N.C., and R. Kelley Upton of Elizabeth City; one sister, Kay Coltharp of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Gene Allen Upton II and a sister, Beverly Eddens. A funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church St., with the Rev. Scott Neal officiating. Entombment will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to one's charity of choice. You may sign the online register at www.twifordfh.com.
