Bob enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, and later graduated from Elon College and the Medical College of Virginia. Bob was a well-loved oral and maxillofacial surgeon and member of the Sandbridge, Ghent, and Pinehurst communities. He was the life of the party and a friend to everyone he met.

Whitmore, III (Karen) of New Bern, NC; Julie Whitmore Scherrer (Kevin) of Chesapeake; Edward Dickinson Whitmore (Allison) of Norfolk; George Holland "Hobie" Whitmore (Melissa) of Virginia Beach; his sister Robbie Whitmore Boehling of Richmond; and 10 grandchildren.

"Papa Bob" loved life. He loved his wife Paula, his children, his grandchildren, his dogs Zoe and India, and a good cold beer. He made a difference in the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Dear Mrs. Whitmore and family,

I was saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Whitmore. I worked for Dr. Whitmore just before he retired. He was a card! Most importantly he was an exceptional surgeon and a true professional.
I am very sorry for your loss.
