Romalda Swindell Obituary


Romalda Swindell WAKEFIELD - Romalda Swindell, 89, of Wakefield, formerly of Respass Beach, Suffolk, died Sept. 24, 2008, at home. She was born June 15, 1919, in Swan Quarter, N.C., was married and raised her family in Portsmouth and Suffolk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Thomas Swindell. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Surviving are a daughter, Ginny Swindell Thompson and husband David of Suffolk; sons, Tommy Swindell and wife Pat of Wakefield and Troy Swindell and wife Carol of Moneta, Va.; seven grandchildren, Davey and Earl Thompson of Suffolk, Connie Placido and husband Bruce of Massachusetts, Christine Treakle and husband Mark of Chesapeake, Gary Thomas Swindell and wife Emily of North Carolina, John Troy Swindell II, Heather Turner and husband Jamie; 12 great-grandchildren, Gina McClung, Zachary and George Thompson II, Jennifer Roman, Arin Sandridge, Cassie Placido, Michelle March, Amanda Darden, Abbie Nichole Swindell, Ashley Nichole Swindell, Hunter Thomas Swindell and Cassie Treakle; 13 great-great-grandchildren, Heather Carson, Dustin McClung, George III and Taylor Michelle Thompson, Curtis, Christopher, Kayla and Tyrell Roman, Dandre Sandridge, Lily Duncan, Chloe and Haley Darden and Jeovani Placido; two sisters, Audrey Lambert and Betty Hurd; and one brother, Elisha Johnson II. She was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Johnson and Francis Forbes. The service will be held at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Saturday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. H.B. "Jackie" Allen. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home today and at the home of Mark and Christine Treakle, 2208 N. Bugle Drive, Chesapeake, immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
