Ronald Lee Culpepper "Big Ron" passed peacefully on July 9, 2021 in Maryview Hospital ICU. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Walter A. and Addie Lee Culpepper, Big Ron grew up in the Churchland area of Portsmouth and graduated from Churchland High School in 1964. Big Ron retired from SUPSHIP Portsmouth in 2002 with 36 years of government service. In his earlier years Big Ron coached multiple youth sports teams, and was an avid softball player and golfer. Later in life he thoroughly enjoyed Karaoke with friends, going out to eat and even just staying home watching TV especially if the Yankees or Redskins were on. Big Ron dearly loved his wife, his two sons and three grandchildren and bragged on them every chance he got.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years Shirley Marland Culpepper; son Ronald L. Culpepper, Jr.; son Randy L. Culpepper; grandchildren Haylee, Rylan and Harlee Culpepper; sister Betty Lou Marland; brother Kenny W. Culpepper (Teresa); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Walter A. Culpeper, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am Friday, July 16, 2021 at Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at Loving Funeral Home from 5-6:30 pm Thursday. Online condolences may be made at www.LovingFuneralHome.com
