Sherry Orrel Obituary

Sherry Lorae Osburn Orrel, 78, the tell-it-like-is, feisty yet incredibly forgiving online shopping queen, who always had an open door (or at least unlocked) and open heart, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021 in Suffolk, Va. Sherry was the firstborn of the late Leo and Ruth Osburn of Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania.

She soon became a world traveler after joining the Navy, where she met her husband, Marvin H. Orrel. Together they went scuba diving and started a family while being stationed in the likes of California, Australia, Hawaii, Guam, then finally Virginia.

She was continually loving and welcoming despite losing so many dear family; she was predeceased by her husband Marvin, sister Colleen Rowe and brother Stephen Osburn, as well as her parents. She is survived by her sister Lee Hendrix, and her children, Jim Orrel (Varda), Greg Orrel (Stephanie), Alysia Orrel (Gary), Jessica Swinson (Dave), and Jeremy Orrel. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren: Kaylyn, Kearstin, Alexis, Aubrey, Tom, Lauren, Amber, Leon, Payton, Molly, Noah, and Patrick as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A private memorial celebration is being planned for the end of September. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Special Olympics or the American Lung Association, or just plant some flowers in honor of her. She loved them so much, especially iris, mandevilla, hibiscus, and jasmine.
