Shirley James Obituary
Virginia Beach - Shirley Mercer James passed away on Saturday June 25, 2016. She was born on September 9, 1927 to Pat and Christine Mercer. Shirley is predeceased by her husband, John B. James and her daughter, Robin J. James.
She and her family were the proprietors of the Beacon Motor Lodge in Nags Head, NC for the past 40 years. Shirley loved animals and especially her "grand dog, Ciroc". She also loved Redskins football. She never missed a game.
Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Judy Wilson and her husband J.W. and Debbie Higgins and her husband Tom and several great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her kind neighbors, her friends and employees from the Outer Banks and the many acquaintances she made over the many years at the Beacon Motor Lodge.
The family wishes to thank Mary Asencio, Shirley's caretaker and Lori Gwynn, family friend, for their care and kindness. She will be truly missed.
Funeral services will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach S.P.C.A. 3040 Holland Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23453, The Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, VA 23451, or to the American Cancer Society, 4446 Expressway Dr, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd Chapel is handling the arrangements. Aunt Shirley was a beautiful person both inside and out! She had such a kind and generous heart! I will truly miss her and I am sure she is at peace and finally with Robin and Uncle John. My family joins me in sending our deepest condolences to her family.

Judy, I am not certain how long it has been since I have s.een you , and it seems the last time I saw JW was Afro a memorial service. When I saw this name I remembered instantly who she was ands hat a special part of your family she was. I know you treasure the memories and that helps in healing, but it is still difficult to accept that loss. I share with you that I lost my dad in 2007 but will be remembering him this Thursday on what would have been his 100th birthday - I would welcome the opportunity to catch up. Until then, my thoughts are with you, JW,mand all.
