Stephen Edwards Obituary

Stephen V. Edwards, Jr.

Virginia Beach - Stephen Vernon Edwards, Jr. of Virginia Beach passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on November 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Stephen and Rose Marie Edwards, and was preceded in death by his brother Daniel B. Edwards.

Steve retired from Monnette Information Systems as a Vice President of Sales in 2002. Following his retirement he worked as a courier for S.L. Nusbaum and provided laughs for many at each stop.

Steve was a longtime member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. He was the past president of Kempsville Meadows Golf Association, a devout member of the weekend "Blitz", and spearheaded many of the Mens Club tournaments and fundraisers, as well as their scholarship fund.

He was an avid and passionate fan of the Washington Redskins and ODU monarchs.

Steve is survived by his wife Mary Smith Edwards and children Stephanie Edwards, Jennifer Boyd, Thomas Taylor and wife Jennifer, Beth Scheiderer and husband David; sister Elizabeth Tillett; grandchildren David Versprille, Ashleigh Boyd, Mason Taylor, Perry Taylor, Cecily Scheiderer and Sinclaire Scheiderer, as well as numerous other family members and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the Laskin Road chapel of HD Oliver Funeral Apts.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Kempsville Meadows Golf Association Scholarship Fund or to Wounded Warriors.

I was so sad to hear about Steve. As a Norview Pilot Alumni, Avid Redskin supporter and avid Kempsville golfer, as I am, Steve was always so much fun to be around. He & I were always talking Redskin football or playing golf together at Kempsville. He will be missed by so many of us. My prayers are with the Family. God speed Steve.

I had the privilege of playing many rounds of golf with Steve over the years. Many of them were profitable for us and all of them were enjoyable. He would always tell me how proud he was of his family especially his grandchildren. The Kempsville golf community has lost another good one. It was truly a pleasure knowing him. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.
