Steven Hamilton Oliver, 66, passed away peacefully in his Virginia Beach home on October 13th, 2021. Steve was a native of Portsmouth and a 1973 graduate of Churchland High School. He obtained a double major degree in Accounting and Business from Virginia Tech in 1977 and earned his CPA credentials. In addition to his career in independent accounting, Steve was formerly a residential builder, realtor and later an accountant for Henry S. Branscome LLC. He was a member of Churchland Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha Beatrice and Hamilton Chapman Oliver.
The titles that Steve was most proud of were that of Father and Grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Shelby Ross Oliver, who is his only child with his ex-wife, Melissa Bayne Oliver. He was her best friend, her protector, and her cheerleader. He also leaves behind three precious and adoring grandchildren, Khole Brielle, Makenna Belle, and Hendrix Malaki who he loved beyond all measure.
He is also survived by his brother James Michael Oliver (Starr) and two sisters, Susan Houde and Vicki Bohen along with many nephews and nieces. Others who will cherish Steve's memory are Glenn Rosso, his best friend since high school and Sharon Holden and her daughter Misty.
Steve was the embodiment of kindness and was ever present for anyone in need. He was a lover of football and baseball, and most devoted to his dog, Finley. To all of us, he leaves the echo of his bellowing laugh and striking smile to fill the absence of his earthly presence.
