Thomas M. Bean

1935 - 2018

Thomas Marshall Bean, 83, died on Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born in Portsmouth on May 5, 1935 to the late Vernon and Leona Parham Bean, and was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Frances Shotwell Bean. He graduated from Woodrow High School in 1953, and enlisted in the United States Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged in 1960.  Followering his discharge he began a 30 year career with the Quality Shop of Portsmouth. Thomas was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Churchland Lions Club and the Portsmouth Junior Chamber of Commerce. Surviving him is his daughter, Jennifer Bean Kirk of Laguna Niguel, CA, three step children, Pamela Harris of Virginia Beach, Charles Roughton of Avon, NC, and Paul Roughton of Wilmington, Del. Also left to cherish his memory are three grandchildren, Narhaniel, Alexandra, and Emerson Kirk, a sister, Dale Bean Swimme of Elizabeth City, NC, a brother, Elvin Bean of Sevierville, TN, and 11 nieces and nephews. A memorial service, presided over by the Reverend Tammy Estep will be held at Haygood United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 4, 2018, followed by a reception in the church social hall.
