Walter Edwin Dickerson CHESAPEAKE - Walter Edwin "Doc" Dickerson, 79, of Pocaty Road, Chesapeake, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009. Born in Niles, Mich., he was the son of the late Roy and Sylvia Dickerson and was predeceased by siblings, Laura Swartzentruber, Helen Bergey, Norma Wonderly, Dale Dickerson, Lloyd Dickerson, Roy Dickerson Jr., and Donald Dickerson. Doc retired as a battalion chief from the Chesapeake Fire Department. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and the Hickory Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mildred Tripp Dickerson; a daughter, Nancy Gail Dickerson; a grandson, Trevor Hendricks and his father, Chuck; siblings, Dorothy Beiler, James Dickerson, Catherine Deans and Barbara Miller; as well as beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Bob Pihlcrantz and the Rev. David Swartzentruber will officiate. The interment with fire department honors will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The viewing will begin Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
