William Epperly Obituary

William E. Epperly VIRGINIA BEACH - William Elbert Epperly, 93, a native of Norfolk, has gone to be with our Lord Dec. 5, 2009. An active lifetime member of the First Church of God (Anderson), Bill retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years as a progress man supervisor. He was a Scout Master of Troop 41 and a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 70 years, Katherine Myers Epperly; his daughter, Sue Teed and her husband John; his daughter-in-law, Susan Epperly; grandchildren, Beth, Clarke, Robyn, Kyle, Johnny, Gail, Rodney, Lional and Katherine; and great-grandchildren, Heather, Ben, Cystal, Tina, Austin, Miranda, Andrew, Emily, Jared, Jude, Jenna, Bridger, River and Brier. Bill was preceded in death by his son, William "Bill" Clark Epperly. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the First Church of God (Anderson), 8600 Granby St., Norfolk, with the Rev. Ben Stultz and Chaplain Carl Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Afterwards, a reception will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Church of God (Anderson) Building Fund. Mrs. Epperly and family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 7, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. The family wishes to thank Dr. Herbert Brewer and staff for their loving care over the past 40 years and the caring staff of Medi Home Health and Hospice for their care and support.
