William Petty

William D. Petty PORTSMOUTH - William Douglas Petty, 64, of the 100 block of Wyoming Ave., died Dec. 12, 2009, in his home. A native of Painesville, Ohio, he retired from the U.S. Navy Submarine Service after 20 years service and was a pump mechanic with DESMI Inc. Survivors include his wife, Sandra M. Petty; four daughters, Angela P. English of North Charleston, S.C., Patricia N. Purvis and husband Chris of Virginia Beach, Teresa N. Reel and husband Brad of Chesapeake, and Paula Atkins of Arlington, Va.; one sister, Judy Casto and husband Bob of Lodi, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Robert Jefferies of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Alex, Kristin, Nick, Erin and Chloe; and one great-grandson, Seth. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel.
