Willliam Overton Obituary

William S. Overton, 86 went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on December 6, 2021. Bill was born in Johnston, PA to the late Alton "A.W" Overton and Mrs. Lois Hardy Overton. He was President of The Overton Group; a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church, was a former member and served as a Deacon at South Norfolk Baptist Church. Bill was also a former member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army; member of Gideons International Chesapeake West Camp; former Mayor and City Councilman of the City of Chesapeake. He was a Graduate of William and Mary College and earned his master's degree from Michigan State University.

He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Spruill Overton; daughter, Gaye Overton Benson and her husband, Jeff; sons, W. Jeffrey Overton and his wife, Jackie, and A. Scott Overton and his wife, Kelli; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda (Ryan), Joshua (Annie), Jessica (Jaison), Julia, Jenna, Josie (Aaron), Cameron, Caleigh, Meredith (Chris), Morgan and Madison (Matt); and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. A service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Following the service, the family invites you to join them in the reception center at the funeral home for a time of food and fellowship. He will be laid to rest beside his parents in a private service at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk.
