Alan Duryea Obituary

CANTON - Alan Baylor Duryea, 95, of 544 N. Main St. died at 8:34 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

He was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Canton to Sherman and Grace (Baylor) Duryea. He married Nydia R. Hiel on Aug. 11, 1935, in Canton. She died Aug. 14, 2003.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia A. (Larry) Garrison of Alpharetta, Ga.; one son, David (Barbara) Duryea of Bartonville, Ill.; one brother, Willis Duryea of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Alan was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Alan and Harold Firp Nagel ran Universal Traders on Martin Avenue in Canton, and he also owned Duryea's Sporting Goods in Canton.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge 626 in Canton and the Canton Country Club.

Visitation will be from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
