KICKAPOO - Alma Lee Burns (nee Mills) 90, of Clinton, mother of a Kickapoo man, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at her son, Richard's, home in Kickapoo, Ill.
She was born on May 27, 1923, to Frank and Florence Anderson Mills and was married to Laurence R. "Doc" Burns on Jan. 16, 1943, in Clinton. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Richard Laurence Burns, and daughter-in-law, Colleen Callahan Burns of Kickapoo; and her granddaughter, Brittney Rae Burns of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lyle Dean Burns, whose wife, Terry Burns, survives.
She was one of seven siblings, three of whom preceded her in death, Bernard Mills, Opal Miller and Hazel Smith. She is survived by her siblings, Louise Smith, Mildred Burns and Darrell Mills, all of Clinton. She was beloved by her nieces and nephews.
Alma was an extremely talented quilter and enjoyed spending time with her card club.
In celebration of Alma's life, her family is hosting a reception from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Calvert Funeral Home, located at 201 S. Center St. in Clinton. Immediately following the reception, a luncheon in Alma's honor will be at Ted's Garage, located at 602 S. Center St. in Clinton.
Memorials may be made to the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind, located at 2960 Stanton St., Springfield, IL 62703.
A private burial will be in Mausoleum Park Cemetery in Clinton.
