PEORIA - Bette V. Farmer, age 86, of 6011 N. Briarwood Lane, Peoria, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 6:30 a.m. at her home.
She was born on April 5, 1923, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Dale R. and Hilda C. (Van Gerpen) Andre. She married Philip Jose Farmer on May 9, 1941, in Booneville, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2009.
Surviving are her two children, Philip L. Farmer of Long Beach, Calif., and Kris Josephsohn of Peoria, Ill.; five grandchildren, Kim Ladd of Peoria, Torin Farmer of Germany, Andi (Todd) Rodman of St. Louis, Mo., Stephanie Josephsohn of Portland, Ore., and Thomas Josephsohn of Chicago; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Gittrich of Peoria, Max Rapp of Minnesota, Kristopher Ladd of Peoria, Braeden Josephsohn of Ohio, and Ella Rodman and Liam Roadman, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and two nieces, Nancy Adams of Vinton, Va., and Diane Carpenter of St. Augustine, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Ruth Knepp, and one grandson, Matthew Josephsohn.
She attended Bradley University and received a degree in medical laboratory technology, a profession in which she worked for several years. While at Bradley, she was a member of the Lamdda Phi sorority and also sang alto-soprano for the Stephen foster Singers and Lamdda Phi Chorus.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, at First Federated Church of Peoria. Burial will be in the First Federated Church Columbium.
Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.
