C.G. Tomm
DELAVAN - Charles George "C.G." Tomm, 87, of Delavan passed away at 5:38 a.m. Tuesday July 10, 2018, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, after a very long journey with Alzheimer's.
He was born on November 26, 1930, to George Edward and Jessie Kiezling Tomm. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia A. Alexander, on February 3, 1951, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Sandy (Ron) Rowell of Morton, Cheryl (John) Kroeger of Effingham and Mike (Tracy) Tomm of Lewistown; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Creviston of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Mark Tomm.
C.G. lived in Waynesville, IL, where his father owned an International Harvester dealership until his family moved to Delavan when he was six. In Delavan, he attended the one room Meeker grade school and then graduated from Delavan High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1952 and was member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from January of 1953 until January of 1955, working at the Pentagon. He was qualified as an Expert Rifleman M-1 Garand. He then returned to Delavan and farmed the family farm for the next 55 years. Tomm Farm was recognized as a Centennial Farm in 1998.
He was a lifetime member of the Delavan Methodist Church, where his funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan. Burial will be at Prairie Rest Cemetery, with military honors by the Delavan American Legion Post 382.
