Cheryl Belsly Obituary

Cheryl L. Belsly
METAMORA - Cheryl L. (Moore) Belsly, 64, left her wheelchair behind and ran into the arms of her Savior on Monday, March 29, 2021, at her home in Metamora, IL. She was lovingly surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born on September 7, 1956, in Augsburg, Germany, to Jack and Joanne (Kellum) Moore.
Cheryl was a 1974 graduate of East Peoria Community High School. She graduated among the top 10 of her class and also participated in National Honors Society, Sterling Merit, Orchestra and 9 Strings. She then attended Western Illinois University, majoring in Nutrition and French, and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and graduated Cum Laude in 1978.
She met the love of her life, Brad Belsly, in December of 1976. They married on September 30, 1978, in East Peoria, IL. To this union were born her beloved children, Justin, Jessica and Jonathan. The joy of her life were her six grandchildren, Ava and Cade Belsly, Jackson, Hudson and Kayson Steele and Hadley Belsly.
She was always actively involved in her church and especially enjoyed her small groups and bible studies with her many dear friends.
In 1992, Cheryl was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 2. She navigated her continually progressing disease with grace, eventually becoming wheelchair bound. She was lovingly cared for by her husband and mother and also many special angels who cared for her with beautiful compassion. So many people were blessed to call her friend, as she demonstrated a life of service and faith in her Savior and Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Brad; children, Justin (Charley) Belsly, Jessica (Justin) Steele and Jonathan Belsly; six grandchildren; mother, Joanne Moore; brother, Roger (Lisa) Moore; sister, Ann (Gary) Nuese; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces; and many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Moore; and brother, Scott Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2021, at Great Oaks Community Church in Germantown Hills, with Pastor Dan Baker officiating. Due to Covid-19, CDC guidelines will be followed. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel, and also one hour prior to her service on Friday at the church. Cremation rites accorded, with burial of ashes at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be forever grateful for donations to the National Ataxia Foundation, 600 Highway 169 South, Suite 1725, Minneapolis, MN 55426. Our hope is for a cure to come soon for all of our family and others suffering from this devastating disease. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.

I worked for a short time with Cheryl at Illinois Mutual many years ago. I believe she was a summer employee during her college days. She was such a nice person.

Although I hadn't spoken to Cheryl in many years I often thought about her. She was one of the most kind, smart, funny and compassionate people that I had the privilage to know. Her family was such a great family and how they embodied what a family should be. It looks like Cheryl carried on with all of those great qualities with her family. My heart goes out to all of you in Cheryl's family. May she rest in peace and harmony.
