PEORIA - Christopher "Kip" Keeling, of Brookline, Mass., formerly of Peoria, died in his home on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, after a long illness. He was 36 years old.
Chris was born May 8, 1975, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Rudy and Jane Keeling, currently of Londonderry, N.H. He was raised and educated in Peoria, Ill., Whitefish Bay, Wis., and Bangor, Maine.
In 1993 he graduated from Bangor High School, where he was a member of the Bangor High 1993 State A Boys' Basketball Championship team.
He was a member of the University of Maine at Orono basketball team from 1993 to 1996 and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine in 1998.
Chris worked as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. Following that, he worked as a financial aid adviser in the office of student financial services at Boston University and served as the director of student financial services at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
He was a sports enthusiast and an especially knowledgeable college basketball fan.
His friends remember his contagious laughter, quick wit, and charming smile. People who knew him just naturally loved him because he was a sweet soul.
He is deeply loved and survived by his mother and father; three grandparents, Jane and Spalding Slevin of Peoria, Ill., and Theodora Keeling of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters and their partners, Kara Keeling and Chandra Ford of Los Angeles, Calif., and Tina Keeling and Nick Valadez of Londonderry, N.H.; two brothers, Cory Keeling of Londonderry and David Keeling and his wife, Natalie, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a nephew, Nicholas Valadez; and many aunts, uncles and cousins all around the country. He also will be greatly missed by his girlfriend, Shweta Bhatt of Brookline, Mass.
Kip touched many lives and hearts.
A memorial service will be held at the Peabody Funeral Home and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, N.H., on Saturday, June 25, with calling hours from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a brief service to honor his life from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kip's name are being accepted at the Pine Street Inn, Development Office, 444 Harrison St., Boston, MA 02118.

Words cannot express the sadness I am feeling for you. I did not know Kip, but from what I have read and heard he was an awesome son. This is no surprise, as you are such a wonderful family yourselves. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I met Chris 5 years ago at Boston University. But we have always been brothers. We spent hours excitedly making big plans to do big things.
God has bigger plans for him. And down here, I will miss him sorely.

Dear Keeling family-
I worked closely with Chris at Pine Manor College. What a kind, intelligent and peaceful young man. He was well respected by colleagues and students. I was lucky to know him and I am sincerely sorry for your great loss. Gone too soon.
May God embrace you with his love and comfort during this time.

Jane and Rudy -
So sorry to hear of your son's passing. It sounds like he was an exceptional person, but that's not surprising to me, considering that he was your son. May God bless your family and, most of all, Kip.
