Debra Kay Phebus
LEWISTOWN - Debra Kay Phebus, 65, of Jacksonville, formerly of Lewistown, died on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born in Canton, IL, on November 15, 1955, to Albert and Irene (Fouts) Garlisch. She married Charley Phebus on April 24, 1983, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, IL. He survives.
Debby is also survived by her three daughters, Emily Phebus and Jennifer Phebus of Jacksonville and Laurie Phebus of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her brother, Kevin (wife, Teresa) Garlisch of Havana, IL; and her niece, Alexis Garlisch of Iowa City, IA.
Debby was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Diane Garlisch.
Debby grew up outside Lewistown, IL, and graduated from Lewistown High School. She was a first-generation college student, graduating from Illinois College in 1977. She worked as an accounting supervisor at Capitol Records for seven years. While her daughters were in grade school, Debby spent several years volunteering at Salem Lutheran School. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville.
Debby enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, taking trips with her family, listening to music and reading. She loved flowers. Cultivating her flowerbeds and working outside brought her much joy, as evident in the many daylilies, tulips and daffodils she planted over the years. She was a wonderful mom and wife, supporting her family in innumerable ways.
The family would like to thank Dr. Laurent Brard and his staff, as well as the staff at Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU, for the care they provided Debby for the last three years.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville, with a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
