Longtime Edwards resident was 100
PEORIA - Esther I. Hoffman, age 100, of Peoria, formerly a longtime resident of Trigger Road in Edwards, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Apostolic Christian Skyline Nursing Center in Peoria.
She was born April 10, 1913, in rural Peoria County to Everett and Josephine (Burdette) Hauk. She married Louis J. Hoffman on Feb. 27, 1934, in Peoria. He passed away July 1, 1979, in Peoria.
She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Gladys Nibbelin and Lois Phillips; one son, Glen Hoffman; one son-in-law, Ralph Nibbelin; one sister, Clara Finck; and three brothers, Frank, Roy and Arnold Hauk.
Survivors include one son, Warren "Pete" (Sandy) Hoffman of Dunlap; one daughter, Laura (Russell) Stokes of Dunlap; one son-in-law, Gary Phillips of East Moline; 14 grandchildren, Mark, Mike, Tim and Tom Nibbelin, Jon McGhee, Julia Lowe, Jeff and Jim Hoffman, Jill Durham, Janice Metcalfe, Steve and David Phillips, Andrew Stokes and Lisa Stokes-Tadie; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
She was a graduate of Sipp School, then Peoria High School in 1930.
Esther lived on a farm all her life. She worked for years at the Heart of Illinois Fair. She was co-superintendent of the Junior Division and Hobby Building. She served on the Election Board for her precinct for many years.
She was a member of the Loyal Neighbors Club, Home Extension, Illinois Chapter of the National TTT, a former Girl Scout leader and 4H leader, and member of the Dunlap High School PTA.
She loved her garden and flowers, and was an excellent seamstress and embroiderer. Esther's biggest joy was spending time with her family on holidays and at family gatherings.
The family would like to thank the Skyline Apostolic home for all the love and care Esther received since May of 2008.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Private graveside services will follow the visitation at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dunlap Fire Protection District at 400 N. Fourth St., Dunlap, IL 61525; or Apostolic Christian Skyline Home at 7023 NE Skyline Drive, Peoria, IL 61614.

I am a long time friend of Pete and Sandy Hoffman. I know how much they cared and how much time was spent at the nursing home with Esther. My heartfelt sympathy to you both and to the rest of the family. I know you will miss visiting her. Judy Powers

"Grandma" brought so much joy to her family. She always had the time for us and wasn't afraid to keep us in line. Our hearts go out to all the family in this difficult time.
