PEORIA - George L. Seiler, age 73, of Peoria passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
George was born on October 12, 1947, in Peoria, IL, a son to Theodore W and Mary Jane (Kelly) Seiler.
George was a veteran, enlisting in the Navy at age 18 in 1965, serving 3 years. He spent time in the Azore Islands, as well as a telegraph operator, sending and receiving Morse code aboard the USS Independence.
He pursued a golf career, serving as the Assistant Pro at the Country Club of Peoria. He later worked for both the TP&W and the South Shore Railroads.
George loved golf and in his retirement was doing what he called his "dream retirement job" of mowing grass at a golf course (Arrowhead Country Club). He loved everything about it, including the early morning hours.
He was a lover of plants, always caring for and explaining the ins and outs of various varieties, and earned an Associate's Degree in Horticulture. As Christmas gifts he would buy you an Amaryllis bulb and ask
for pictures over the following weeks, wanting to see how it was doing.
George loved his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren, who adored him. He would attend as many activities as was possible, even though he lived 3 hours away.
He made friends easily, had a great smile and loved telling and sharing stories. He did not know a stranger.
Survivors include 2 sons, Adam Seiler of Villa Park, IL, and Zack Seiler of Michigan City, IN; and 3 grandchildren, Brandon Seiler, Cameron Seiler and Morgan Mahan. He had two sisters, Jane (Lisa Arnett) Seiler of Peoria and Patty (Tom) Barton of Garland, TX; and one brother, T.J. (Lynne) Seiler of Dunlap.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kelly Seiler.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary in Peoria. There will be additional visitation on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service on Saturday.
