WASHINGTON - Gloria Anne Chiras, 74, of Washington, IL, passed away on February 8, 2021, at OSF Hospital in Peoria, IL. Gloria was born on June 30, 1946, in Peoria to Henry B. and Caroline "Alice" Overbeck Hoelscher.
Gloria was happily married to Petros "Pete" Chiras on May 18, 1974, in Peoria, IL. He passed away on March 1, 2016.
Gloria is survived by her 2 sons, Nickolas (Jennifer) Chiras and Michael Chiras; 2 granddaughters, Petra and Anne Chiras; and 2 grandsons, Luka and Henry Chiras. She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Carol) Hoelscher, and nephew, Justin; and was also loved by many cousins and other extended family and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Steven Hoelscher.
Gloria's greatest joy was her family. She was a homemaker, supporting her husband and children with amazing homemade meals, homemade Halloween costumes and unfaltering motherly love. Her grandchildren brought her joy daily, whether it was watching a living room gymnastics routine, admiring a new construction or art creation, playing Yahtzee, or making cookies, "GiGi" was all in.
Gloria enjoyed traveling with her husband and children. From Cyprus and the Greek Islands, to the Grand Canyon and New York City, she was always ready for adventure. She especially loved the trips she was able to take with her family to Disney World. Gloria was also a devoted dog mom to Gypsy, Litsa, and most recently with her new "daughter" Tilli. She also loved her Hallmark Christmas movies and had an affinity for the Game Show Network.
Through good times and bad, Gloria's faith in God was unwavering. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington for almost 40 years and passed down her faith to her children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Foster Pet Outreach.
Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with cremation rites. Services will be scheduled for a later date. Inurnment will be Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
