Harold Berg Obituary
PEORIA - Harold W. Berg, 92, of Peoria passed away peacefully in his home in Peoria on Friday, August 3, 2018.
He was born in Hoopeston, Illinois, on September 25, 1925, to Chester and Edith (Wood) Berg.
Harold married Lorraine Kuhn on January 25, 1945, in Peoria, enjoying 71 years of marriage before Lorraine passed away on October 27, 2016.
Harold is survived by his sister, Lillian Knight; his children, Todd (Martha) Berg of Roscoe, IL, Tami (Pat) Grady of Davenport, IA, and Brad Berg of Peoria; and grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Garcia of Villa Park, IL, Michael Berg of Rockford, IL, Austin Berg of Chesapeake, VA, Brandon Berg of Bloomington, IL, and Kelsey Berg of Bloomington, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Chet and Leon "Bud."
Following high school, Harold enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving in World War II with the Marine Raiders. When he returned home, he and Lorraine were married and moved to Bloomington, IL, where he worked for Country Companies for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He and Lorraine owned and operated a property appraisal business, Midwest Appraisal, until they returned to live in Peoria in 2009.
Harold was an active member in Peoria's Mohammed Temple, serving as Potentate in 1992. He was a two-time Purple Heart recipient and member of the Marine Raiders Association. He traveled extensively on behalf of this organization, speaking about his war experiences. He went on the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in 2013. Harold and Lorraine were life-long boaters on the Illinois River. They were members of the Peoria Boat Club and the IVY Club. He was a member of First Federated Church of Peoria.
Funeral services for Harold will be Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria, IL, where visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to time of services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, with military honors following the services.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

I am watching the films Pacific and want to extend my sincere sympathy to you all for your loss and deeply regret that I am not able to thank Mr. Berg for his absolutely couragous service in what was a horrific chapter of his life. To you all I say thank you for being there to honor him throughout his amazing life.

Just saw a news story on Sgt Berg when he went to another veterans home to visit him. Pure legend! I'm sure he chasing the girls in heaven.

We will always have a soft spot for Harold in our hearts. My wife, Dad,& I all worked together at Country Company. Harold knew every donut shop in the area. We made several boat trips down the Illinois river, & hunted dove & pheasants with his trusted dog Smokey. We were fortunate enough to have attended several of their wedding anniversaries. He loved his family, he loved his Shriners, the Marines and of course his dogs. We will miss his laugh and his presence. What a life well lived! Rest in peace Marine...you did well.... Semper Fi
