EAST PEORIA - Jack Dean Lashbrook Sr., age 78, of East Peoria passed away at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at his home.
Jack was born on Aug. 1, 1935, in Marion, Ill., to Carlos Richard and Dimple Marie (Cavitt) Lashbrook. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a longtime member of Peoria Post 2 American Legion. He met the love of his life, Betty Joyce Martin, and they were married on Nov. 19, 1955. They shared 57 years of marriage and had four children. His loving wife, Betty, preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2013.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, grandparents, two half brothers, one half sister and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Surviving are his children, Joyce (Gary) Harper of Pekin, Ill., Barbara (Don) Goben of Decatur, Tenn., Jack Lashbrook Jr. of East Peoria and Bonnie (Charles) Maness of Brighton, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Jayme Emery, Lori Hiatt, Kelly (Matt) Hopper, Jessie Goben, Scott Hiatt, Nicholas (LeAnn) Maness and Christopher, Bradley and Victoria Maness; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Ashley, Carley and Wyatt.
Jack loved to hunt, fish and collect old coins. Every Sunday he loved to watch sports. Jack was a loyal Cardinals fan.
It is believed he died of a broken heart, as his health deteriorated drastically in the last year since the loss of his beloved wife. Jack will be missed by his family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, May 9, 2014, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Don Potts will be officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

I am so very sorry of the passing of Jack. I truly believe he did die of a broken heart. I never really saw him much after he lost Betty, but the couple of times I did, he mentioned how he missed her so. My heart goes out to all his family and friends.
