BARTONVILLE - Jerry L. Beckman Sr., 73, of Bartonville, Ill., died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Hospital in Peoria, Ill.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1938, in Peoria, Ill. He was the son of Virgil L. and Doris E. (Miller) Beckman. He married Sandra M. Segler on Aug. 8, 1959, in Yorkville, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Michael Wayne (Lisa) Beckman of Bartonville, Susan Lynn Beckman-Reed of Deer Creek, Ill., and Patrick Keith (Tamara) Beckman of Bartonville. He has seven grandchildren, Linsey Kauffman, Callie Leibach, Jarred Beckman, Samantha Reed, Devon Reed, Tyler Beckman and Alyssa Beckman. He has two great-grandchildren, Emily and Evan Kauffman. There are three brothers surviving, Jack L. (Pansy) Beckman, David R. (Sally) Beckman and Dennis R. (Laura) Beckman, all of Mapleton, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, J.J. Beckman Jr.
Jerry worked as a design engineer at Beling Engineers in the 1960s, then working at PIPCO and Rohn Manufacturing, and lastly at ALCOA in Princeville, Ill., last working in 2000.
He was a past board member of Limestone Township and was involved with many baseball leagues and the Old Timers Association. He was a past Cub Scout leader, an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed being a sports fan for his grandchildren and being with his family.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Jones will officiate. Visitation will be at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services and private burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to his church, PARC or the American Lung Association.
