John T. "Jack" Murphy, Sr.
EDWARDS - John T. (Jack) Murphy Sr., age 80, of Edwards passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on July 22, 1937 in Peoria, the son of Richard and Stella (Hedges) Murphy. He married Doris J. Schmitt on August 30, 1958 at St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo.
Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years; four children, Debra (Terry) Painter of Galesburg, Rhonda (Scott) Searle of Brimfield, Laurie (Tim) Fehl of Peoria and son, John Murphy Jr. of Morton; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Hawksworth and Gloria (Roy) Keith; three brothers, William (Alberta) Murphy, Larry (Peggy) Murphy, and Michael (Rosemary) Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Murphy; and two sisters, June Hoffman and Patricia Roedell.
Jack worked as a laborer for PIPCO for over 40 years retiring in 1998. He and his wife traveled together in their early retirement. Jack also enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman. Thanks to his many friends, Harold, Larry and so many more, Jack's world was made a better place! Numerous friends and family will miss their nightly phone calls from him. Jack was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family. He spoke daily of his love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always knew "poppy Jack" had a treat in his pocket.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo, the Kickapoo Sportsman Club, the Coal Water Farm, retired Laborers Local 165 and Teamsters #627.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Kickapoo. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo with an additional visitation being held 30 minutes prior to Mass. Father Joseph Dondanville will officiate and burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo.
Memorials in Jack's memory may be made to St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo or Alzheimer's Association, 612 West Glen Ave. Peoria, IL 61614.
